Insurgent by Veronica Roth.
Publication Date: May 1st 2012

Insurgent - HarperTee
One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.
Synopsis by goodreads.com

I wouldn’t necessarily say that I’m waiting for this book. That would not do it justice at all. Now that it’s only a little over a month away it’s okay to begin the proper excitement phase. And to reread Divergent. If you haven’t had the chance to read it, you really should. People have been comparing this to a certain trilogy that just recently hit the silver screen and it’s true that they are similar in some aspects but also completely different in all the others. Anyway, I want it to be May sooner rather than later.

What are you waiting on this Wednesday?

Open Minds by Susan Kaye Quinn

Open Minds - CreateSpace
It was after lunch, and no one had died yet, so I took that as a good sign.
-- Chapter 7

I wished he had said something, or I could have read the remnants of his mind. At least linked in to let him know he wasn’t alone. And to say goodbye.
-- Chapter 31

I found this book quite by accident, browsing goodreads. It's part of a series (who would have thought?) and plays with the topic of mind control, which I find creepy and fascinating at the same time. First and foremost was I curious and with only a few more chapters to go still am hooked by Kira's story.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Selection by Kiera Cass

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week’s can’t wait to read selection is
The Selection by
Publication Date: April 24th 2012

The Selection - Harper Teen
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.
Synopsis by goodreads.com

The synopsis triggers memories of Matched by Ally Condie but also of Imperial Woman by Pearl S. Buck, which I deavoured and loved years back. America Singer sounds like a reluctant heroine. As I'm always in favour of the girl on the sidelines getting pushed into the spotlight, I am intrigued about how she'll handle it. So with an America - Aspen - Maxen love triangle just waiting to happen, we're in for a  fair bit of drama. Will she choose the "beggar" over the "prince"? But whose reading life doesn't need some extra drama?

For eagerly waiting fans, you might want to follow the latest news of the novel being adapted for television. Read the news here.

The Rook by

The Rook - Little, Brown and Company

“Who are you? I can’t understand it. You are not Rook Thomas, and yet you are!”
“Myfanwy Thomas lost her memory,” the younger woman said levelly with that strange detachment that comes in dreams. “I’m what woke up.”
-- Chapter 1

I wish you nothing but the best. Whatever you do, be careful until you have opened the box. Remember, they want you dead.
-- Chapter1

Something a little different this week, but only in the sense that this book has not been labelled Young Adult. To be honest, I’m not a fan of labelling books based on either the audience’s or the protagonist’s age but that’s a different story. Anyway, I highly encourage you to try this book. The first four chapters are available if you click here.

Of Poseidon by Anna Banks.
Publication Date: May 22nd 2012
Of Poseidon - Feiwel & Friends

Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he’s heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen—literally, ouch!—both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma’s gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom . . .
Synopsis by goodreads.com

Mermaid stories are cropping up a lot right now (and I'm not complaining, because I really enjoy them). So why wait for this one? For one: the Synopsis! It sounds really intriguing. This time it's the man coming on land, so there's an inverted role allocation, which I find quite refreshing. Action and suspension also seem to get their fair share in this novel with shark encounters and all. Secondly: look at that cover! Need I say more?
